Crazy Stuff

Many Americans continue to use the mainstream media along with their favorite social media sources as their only source of news and opinion. If you're one of those people, you're a student of the prevailing narrative.

You believe that Donald Trump is a Russian puppet, having colluded with the Russians throughout the presidential campaign. After all, how else did the sainted Hillary Clinton lose. And besides, the fact that there is zero evidence to support that position means nothing—innuendo holds sway.

You believe that Donald Trump is an outright "racist" and a closet "anti-Semite" to boot. After all, how could it possibly be that African Americans are doing far better under this president that under his African American predecessor and that this administration is far, far more friendly toward Israel than the last administration. And besides, the fact that Trump's daughter is a Jew and his closest advisor is Jewish indicate that he hates Jews, right?

You believe that Donald Trump is anti-immigrant. After all, his opponents keep telling us that legal immigrants and illegal immigrants are the same thing. And besides, open borders won't stress our social safety net in southern states. You don't believe that granting economic asylum to, say, 10,000 applicants wont't lead to a hundred thousand more applicants in a matter of months and millions in a matter of years?

You believe that Trump's administration is in "chaos" even though that same administration has accomplished far more in far less time than his predecessor did.

You believe that if you don't like a politician, it's okay to nullify the vote of half the country and impeach him, even without evidence of a "high crime or misdemeanor."

You believe that capitalism is rapacious and evil and that "billionaires" are something we should all be very concerned about. After all, a system that provides a pathway for a poor kid from the inner city to become a successful and wealthy businessperson or professional is not fair. Right?

You believe that socialism is the road to utopia, even though voluminous historical evidence tells us otherwise.

You believe all of that, despite copious evidence to the contrary, so you're ready to vote Trump out of office in 2020 (if he isn't impeached and removed before that by the Democrats who hate him).

If fact, his loss in the next election is a slam dunk, or so the Dems and their trained hamsters in the media tell us. All the Dems have to do is not be crazy.

Heh.

The Dems, driven by Trump Derangement Syndrome and an inexorable slide to the hard left are doing and saying crazy stuff. Mathew Continetti provides an excellent summary (read the whole thing) of just the stuff that Dems have said and suggested in the past week—eliminating private health insurance (Kamala Harris); suggesting very high taxes on very high income individuals (Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez), or a wealth tax that focuses on the money you've saved/invested and have already paid taxes on (Liz Warren); defending the leader of the socialist catastrophe in Venezuela and blaming his corruption and failure on the United States (Ilhan Omar); being blatantly and proudly anti-Israel (Ilhan Omar, again), defending what amounts to infanticide in the guise of woman's rights (the now infamous VA Governor, Ralph Northam). There's more, but that should suffice.

The point of all this is that it appears that the Dems now believe the more extreme their views and their policy proposals, the more they will resonate with the public at large. Uh ... no.
