Mockery

Regular readers of this blog recognize that I hold the legacy or so-called mainstream media in utter contempt. They wrap themselves in moral authority and make the vacuous claim that they are guided by a set of ethics and professionalism that should give them special status and credibility among the populous. In reality they have become a joke—biased, stupid, lazy, incurious, unprofessional, error prone (but always in one ideological direction), and generally irrelevant. The mainstream media are now nothing more than operatives for the Democratic party and have been for at least the past 20 years.

During the Trump years, the media has gone from obvious bias to outright partisan hatred. Richard Fernandez (@wretchardthecat) provides an excellent explanation of their depravity is a series of tweets:
Part of the reason Trump evokes such visceral hatred among the old media elite is they think he's made a mockery of all their ambitions, badges of status, awards etc. Ruined it, made it declasse and cheap ...

The hostility is undisguised. The rage is almost palpable.
Any 'story' that hurts Donald Trump, regardless of its validity, sourcing, or relevance, is reported with vigor. And any story, no matter how significant, that might demonstrate questionable actions by the Democratic party and/or its operatives is either ignored, de-emphasized, or skewed so that it is unintelligible.

Even worse, the collection of biased, stupid, lazy, incurious, unprofessional, error prone, and generally irrelevant "journalists" protect the Democratic party from major scandals (think: Benghazi, the IRS scandal, the Fast & Furious gun-running scandal, the Russian collusion hoax, the FBI 'soft coup' attempt), lionize blatant liars by giving them a public platform (think: the truly despicable Adam Schiff or James Comey), and refuse to provide context or background so that their reports purposely warp the public's understanding of events.

In the past two months, the media has plummeted even lower. Their reporting of the COVID-19 virus has been specifically designed to elicit fear, uncertainty, and doubt, thereby generating a level of hysteria that forced bad decision-making on the part of political leaders (of both parties) at the local, state and federal levels. Their actions during this difficult time have been despicable.

Enemies of the American People? Maybe ... but at the very least they are enemies of the truth who have now destroyed the reputation and legitimacy of a once-noble profession.
