Cardi B
Glitterati within the entertainment industry—actors, singers, musicians, sports stars, among others—have decided to inject themselves into political commentary. Of course they have every right to do just that, but it might be a good idea for each of them to: (1) try very hard to educate themselves on the issues they pontificate about, (2) understand the politics of the Democrats they invariably support, and (3) try really, really hard to make cogent arguments on the issues rather than using their immense media platform to hurl ad hominem attacks at those who disagree with their ideology.
There are two memes that are now found in social media. Both have relevance:
DEAR SINGERS AND ACTORS:
We spend our hard earned money to hear your music and watch you pretend to be real-life characters in movies and on TV.
Your job is to entertain us—to take us away from reality. Your personal opinion means nothing to us.
Your are significant and influential only in your own mind and in the opinion of your elitist peers.
Your are a marionette to us.
SING. ACT. SHUTUP.
Harsh? Yes. But there is truth to this rant.
Another meme is worth considering:
I bring these memes up because there has been a very visible war of words between the rapper, Cardi B (a strong supporter of Democrats and Joe Biden), and conservative political commentator Candice Owens. In the language of social media, Cardi B got "dragged" by Owens for the rapper's mindless support of Biden and his party.Something to ponder... The United States has become a place where entertainers and professional athletes have been mistaken for people of importance.
But I have never—not even once—needed a pro athlete or media personality or a Hollywood entertainer.
- I've needed a doctor.
- I've needed a teacher.
- I need farmers every day.
- I've needed an auto mechanic, a plumber, a house painter, and a lot of other everyday people.
