Israel at War—Day 2

The leftist propaganda media (meaning virtually all of mainstream media, save FoxNews in the U.S.) is already working hard (but subtly) to create moral equivalence—the poor, "oppressed" palestinians ... and all that. Let's recap, before the Hamas terror attack goes down the media's memory hole as Israel begins it retaliation. Gil Troy comments:

It shouldn’t be necessary to say, but the vicious, wide-scale attack Hamas launched against Israelis sleeping at home, waiting in bus stops, walking the streets, going to synagogue, living in nursing homes, is reprehensible and inexcusable. The videos Palestinians have proudly posted—of terrorists going house-to-house, an Israeli man in shorts handcuffed, a woman screaming on a motorcycle, being taken to Gaza as hostages—are chilling. The story of Yoni Asher, 37—whose wife, 5- and 3-year-old daughters and mother-in-law were apparently abducted to Gaza—is heartbreaking. Videos of an Israeli woman’s corpse being spit on by terrorists are barbaric.

One wonders if any left-wingers, who have spent years justifying and thus encouraging Palestinian terrorism, will re-evaluate their narrative, of poor defenseless Palestinians victimized by Israeli bullies.

Not a chance. After all, the fantasy thinkers on the Left never, ever worry about current facts on the ground, about history, or about Israel's absolute right to exist. [1] They cynically manipulate language in a manner that suits their propaganda aims. They label defensive past military actions to eliminate Hamas rocket launchers in Gaza as "atrocities." They argue that terrorists who have murdered and maimed Israelis are "political prisoners."  They use the word "apartheid" to describe a country that not only allows Arabs to live in peace and prosper but elects them to its parliament and judgeships. They never mention that Hamas has had the ability to govern Gaza independently since 2007, and has done little, if anything to improve the plight of Gaza residents. They dishonestly blame Israel's "blockade" for the plight of the palestinian welfare state, never mentioning that Israel provides utilities, medicine and surgical care, goods and services, and much more to its sworn enemies.

Because the Left controls the international narrative, the first wave of Israeli retaliation will be met with wails of anguish from the moral equivalence squads. Every mainstream media source will leap to show bombed-out buildings in Gaza. They'll likely forget to mention that those buildings housed the thousands of rockets that were launched against Israeli cities. After all, "oppression" ... and all that.

Troy continues:

Israel needs to fight this latest battle with a clarity that its many previous conflicts with Gaza lacked. We all need to remember the assurances in 2005, that Gaza would flourish once the Israeli “occupiers” left. We need to recall how Hamas brutally seized power in June 2007, slaughtering rivals and throwing Mohammed Sweirki, an officer in the Palestinian Presidential Guard, off the top of a 15-story apartment building.

And Israel needs to do what it takes to protect its citizens. As President Biden tweeted on Saturday: “Israel has a right to defend itself—full stop.” Hamas doesn’t care about Israeli life—or Palestinian life for that matter. Palestinian culture, however, worships land. This round of fighting mustn’t end until Israel has created an extended buffer zone protecting every Israeli, even if it requires bulldozing houses and evacuating Gazans.

They will call it “ethnic cleansing,” but it is wholly justified self-defense. Going forward, any violence of any kind from the Gaza Strip should be met by an expansion of the buffer zone, 10 yards at a time.

The majority of the media is calling this Hamas attack Israel's 9/11. That's accurate, and because it's accurate, extreme violence and extreme actions are on the table. In a perfect world, Gaza should be dismantled street by street. If that creates refugees, too bad—there are millions of them world wide. Let them migrate to a better life in Libya or Syria or Lebanon or — oh wait —maybe they'll tell us that life in the pseudo-"refugee camps" in Gaza wasn't that bad after all.

And when the West hyperventilates as it surely will were Gaza to be dismantled, ask each country what it would do if it suffered an equivalent 9/11 attack from a group that lives on their border, that murders their people, that launches rockets at civilian population centers, and that does not accept that Israel has a right to exist. Those are not the questions that the leftists who criticize Israel relentlessly want to answer—ever.

FOOTNOTE:

[1]  It's worth noting that there certainly are those on the far Right who are also anti-Israel and traffic in anti-Semitic tropes. They are generally low intelligence, low IQ neo-Nazis and the like who are immediately identifiable and have almost no real influence with the broader population. They do not control any mainstream media outlets, do not influence the public narrative, and do not manipulate the flow of information across countries and continents. They are, however, repugnant in their beliefs and their actions.
