Dark Fantasy

Team Apocalypse has worked hard to keep the past six months months as dark and depressing as possible, but they've inadvertently introduced a copious amount of humor as they go. Consider the hospitalization of Donald Trump as he fights a COVID-19 infection.

The majority of progressives (charter members of Team Apocalypse) are decent people, and would never publicly hope that Trump suffer from the virus. But for many, I suspect, their dark fantasy is that Trump gets VERY sick (or even dies) to prove that taking a balanced and calm approach to the pandemic led to his demise. That's why every report that Trump is doing well, that his fever has broken, that he is feeling better is met with cries of "cover-up" or "lies" or "White House disinformation." In a way, that's a tell ,and if you look at it objectively, it's kind of funny. Reality has collided with their fantasy, and as usual, reality wins.

Desperate to imply blame, members of Team Apocalypse are calling a White House gathering a "super-spreader event."  That's why they can barely contain their glee as a few attendees report positive test results. Like 6-year olds who need to say, "See, I told you so!" they condemn a White House gathering as a super-spreader, but did NOT do the same for leftist protesting and rioting.

Social distancing, anyone? Masks?

Of course, the campaign goes on, and Team Apocalypse, strong supporters of the Democrats and Joe Biden, are now tasked with navigating Trump's illness. On the one hand, they feign concern and have toned down their attempts to use the "fine people" hoax to paint Trump as a White Supremacist. I haven't seen too many of the Dems' trained hamsters in the media comparing Trump to Hitler over the past few days, so that's a good thing. But Trump Derangement Syndrome runs deep, and the hamster's hatred lies just below the surface.

Maybe that's why The New York Times, along with other left leaning publications, have decided that characterizing Trump as "irresponsible" for not wearing a mask, for not listening "to science," and for not being a COVID-19 catastrophist (like they are) is somehow the reason he got COVID-19. In much of their writing and rhetoric, there's the not-so-subtle implication that he deserves it, because orange man bad.

As an aside, major social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) leaped into the fray to delete the hundreds (thousands?) of gleeful posts and tweets by leftists who expressed their wish that Trump would die from COVID-19 (I believe it was Michael Moore who after learning Trump was hospitalized, tweeted: "My thoughts and prayers are with COVID-19"). After all, the woke executives of social media companies don't want some on the Left to look as deranged as they actually are.

But let's get back on topic. So the media suggests that because Trump eschewed wearing a mask, held big events in which social distancing was questionable, and was otherwise calm in the face of a crisis, he got COVID-19.

But why then did three trained hamsters in the white house press corps also get COVID-19 in the same time frame? They assiduously wore their masks (just ask them), practiced social distancing (just watch them), and often attended the same Trump campaign events. They did everything that the NYT and its sister publications, along with every catastrophist on the planet, wanted them to do, and still ... they got COVID-19. How can that be?

Oh ... do you recall how desperately Team Apocalypse wanted testing, 24/7/365. Trump did that inside the White House, among his staff, and with any visitors, and guess what, it didn't prevent him or his staff from contracting the virus.

So masks and social distancing didn't work for some of the White House press corps but Trump is culpable because he didn't adopt masks and social distancing as a virtue signaling activity. And Trump is "irresponsible" because he followed CDC guidelines for copious testing, even though it didn't protect him or his people.

Maybe it's because (in the words of Alex Berenson) "the virus gonna virus."

Only members of Team Apocalypse would believe the fantasy that masks and social distancing will somehow be powerful enough to stop a force of nature. Only people like Joe Biden would believe that as cases numbers grow due to increased testing, the proper response is to lockdown the country yet again. And only the Dems' trained hamsters in the media would contend that Donald Trump is somehow culpable for contracting the virus because be didn't hide in the White House basement and refused to wear a mask.

UPDATE:

After all of the recriminations, all of the accusations about Trump not being a champion of masks, all of the finger pointing about Trump's lack of concern about social distancing, and all of the mock outrage about Trump's desire NOT to lockdown the economy yet again, there's Sweden.

Team Apocalypse's newspaper of record, The New York Times, decided not to bury positive news for once and has an article entitled: "Vilified Early Over Lax Virus Strategy, Sweden Seems to Have Scourge Controlled." In the tease paragraph the NYT writes:

After having weathered high death rates when it resisted a lockdown in the spring, Sweden now has one of Europe’s lowest rates of daily new cases. Whether that is an aberration remains to be seen.

It's not an aberration. It's the right way for every country to have responded to a worldwide pandemic.
